PTSD in Austin, TX

Just like an injury can leave physical scars, traumatic events sometimes have effects on our mental health that last for months, years, or even the rest of our lives. In some cases, a person might develop post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). This chronic mental health condition can occur as a result of exposure to violence, sexual or domestic abuse, or life-threatening situations, manifesting in symptoms, such as anxiety, reckless behavior, insomnia, depression, and more. In addition to your mental well-being, PTSD can affect your relationships, focus, and ability to get through the day. PTSD occurs as a response to trauma so the symptoms you experience may not be the same as another person's. Some of the more common symptoms of PTSD include:

  • Unwanted memories brought on by reminders of trauma
  • Intrusive, negative thoughts
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Withdrawing from friends and loved ones
  • A feeling that you always need to be "on guard" for danger

The symptoms of PTSD can range in intensity based on your trauma and triggers, which is why a mental health assessment is a necessary step in managing them. Following your appointment, our team at Mynd Works Psychiatry can review your symptoms and help you come up with a management plan.

Kathie is fabulous. She always listens to my needs or concerns, and we work as a team to determine best steps to better my mental health. I have been seeing her for about 5 years now, and I have never felt judged or pressured to do anything I'm not comfortable with (medications wise). She has been an amazing practitioner, and I have been doing so well since I have been able to start under her care.

Kathie is thorough and compassionate. My daughter and I have been her clients for a number of years now and have referred many people to her. She is experienced, and professional. She provides excellent care with a creative approach when needed. When regular treatments didn't work for me she kept trying different approaches until we found one that did. When I first brought my daughter to her, she was in crisis and resistant to any professional management of her mental health. With Kathie's coaching, care and treatment, I happy to say my daughter is flourishing and committed to staying on track with her mental health. I have watched my family grow and heal under her care. I am so grateful to her for bringing happiness and joy back into our lives.

Dr. Bolles takes an integrated approach to mental health. One thing I really appreciate about her is how seriously she takes medication side effects. If there's any physical changes (weight gain, acne, etc.) she will recommend switching to another medication. She also offers gene tests and EEG's to pinpoint the right medications that work with your body, which eliminates/reduces the trial and error phase. Overall, I've really enjoyed my two years with her!

Kathie Bowles has helped me tremendously. I suffer from anxiety and it limited my ability to reach my full potential. We worked together trying to figure out the best meds for my situation. She had mentioned a brain wave analysis that might assist in finding the best medication for my brain. It took me awhile to conduct the test. Once I did and I tried the new medication and my life has changed dramatically. I am no longer crippled by fear. I am very thankful for Kathie and value her expertise.

Kathie saved my life. I was in and out of psychiatric care for almost 2 decades. I was diagnosed with bipolar 2 in my early teens. I was inconsistent with my meds and developed an addiction to cocaine, to help me stay present and energy to get through the day. Kathie was the only person who identified that my addiction to cocaine was linked to my undiagnosed ADHD. Once Kathie started treating my ADHD and stabilizing my mood, my life did a 180. I felt like a human being, I could focus, be present, and the energy to function in life. It was like someone had finally turned the lights on in my head. I am extremely grateful that I have Kathie in my life. I don't know if I would still be here, if I didn't have her help.
