ANXIETY IN
ADOLESCENTS

Adolescent Anxiety (Ages 14-17)

According to the National Institute of Mental Health, approximately 25% of 13- to 18-year-old have an anxiety disorder, and fewer than 6% have a severe anxiety disorder. While anxiety is a natural and healthy response to stress (ie: final exams, giving a presentation, first dates), some teens anxiety goes beyond this to an anxiety disorder. While, it’s tempting to chalk up teen struggles to hormones, it’s important to be aware of and recognize severe anxiety symptoms.
